Week 94: Good Week = Good Food

My epic zone in a holy place

Hey everyone!

The weeks are unfortunately ticking by. I really don't have weeks that feel slow anymore because there's so few left. Summer in Utah is such a beautiful time though. There was a Vineyard Days party last weekend with a firework show we could see from our balcony, and then Orem Summerfest is this coming weekend. That was the parade I was in last year.

This week I had my last interview with my mission president before my exit interview. He had a bunch of planned questions for all the missionaries that he emailed out to everyone about obedience and "having both feet in the mission," but as I sat down he said that he wasn't gonna ask me any of those things cuz if I hadn't figured it out by now I probably wouldn't ever haha. It was great though, and we mostly just talked about what everyone always asks me when I tell them how long I've been out. My mission president is pretty awesome. Then we went to Original Pancake House afterward.

Thursday we got to go to the temple with our zone and the American Fork zone. It was my first time ever doing a temple session without wearing a mask. It's always so cool to get to go to the temple. I was thinking though that in about 5 years, all the missionaries in this mission won't be going to the same temple for zone temple trips (if they still do them). Currently we only have the Mt. Timpanogos temple in AF, but the Saratoga Springs temple will be done at the end of the summer, the Orem temple will probably be done at the beginning of next year, and the Lindon temple is already under construction, so someday we'll have 4 which will be epic; especially since we're pretty much the smallest mission in the world. After the temple we went to Joe's Cafe in Orem, which is sooo good. Their biscuits are unforgettable.

Our homie Amadeus is getting married in October, which is epic because I'll still get to go! And once he does get married he's gonna move to his fiance's place in PROVO. One of the great things about my mission, is that I really don't have to say goodbye to any of these people. And I can keep going to all the food places I like. We went to a Thai place in Orem called Golden Thai this week and it was actually pretty good. It was no Rice by Mama, but good Thai food is hard to come by in Utah.

Friday we had our regular lesson with the Amodo family. We're teaching their son Jayden since he is preparing for baptism, but they don't really come to church a lot. The dad works graves on Saturday nights, so then getting up and going to church was hard for him, but he just got his work schedule changed! We didn't even say anything to him about doing that. He just did it! They came to church on Sunday for the first time in a long time and everyone in the ward was so happy to see them.

We went on exchanges with the APs this week too. We met them at Lomito's for dinner, then I went with Elder Stratton for the evening. He and I have been on many exchanges together. He was my district leader waaaay back in Lehi, and now he's been AP for a little while now. We got to teach Zarian together. He's the kid who lives with his aunt, cousin, and grandma who moved here from Hawaii. Zarian is a lot farther a long than we thought though. Elder Stratton asked him about his experiences in general with the Church and he said, "I've liked it. I like what it teaches me." Then he asked him if he believed the Book of Mormon is true and he said yes. Then he asked him what he has against being baptized and he said, "I don't know." Zarian's whole extended family are active members, so he's been around it for a while and has been invited to baptism plenty of times. We're really excited to keep working with him! We concluded exchanges at Roxberry.

Today for pday we got haircuts from our homie Conner. He works at the barbershop at the University Mall and he cuts our hair for free. Everyone is trying to look real nice this week because our mission has a meeting with Elder BEDNAR from the Quorum of the 12 on Saturday. We're all pretty pumped, but also pretty intimidated. I mean, we're not expecting to get roasted the whole time, but it's not like we're gonna be praised the whole time haha. We got lunch at TruReligion too.

The mission is so fun! I sure am gonna miss it.

Love you all!
Elder Snyder
